RIP: Ray Charles

Ray Charles, master of music who combined blues, gospel, country, dies at 73

I've got no words. Ray Charles was, to me, a quintessential artist; his musical gait spanned genres incredibly diverse, and yet, somehow, he managed to perform with such warmth and honest feeling that you didn't bother trying to categorize him.

What'd I Say
Hit the Road, Jack
Look What They Done to My Song, Ma
America the Beautiful
Georgia on My Mind

Every melody he touched became his.

His music, and his spirit, will be missed.

I need to go rent The Blues Brothers now, to snap me out of this funk.

Hmmm. Be very, very afraid. (And I thought I was frightened before.) Was Over Sea, Under Stone deemed too dull for a crowd of 2007 children?
