Status: Swann's Way (volume 1), page 200

Rather slow read -- not much in the way of action, I mean -- but entertaining so far nonetheless. Proust has this interesting tendency to write sentences which run for a page or so. I hesitate to compare myself to a man many consider one of the best authors of the 20th century, but so do I. :)

The present tense action so far -- i.e. stuff that didn't happen in a flashback sequence:

- The protagonist takes a bite of a cookie.

No, really -- 200 pages and that's it. Only about 3400 pages more to go. Maybe he'll have a snack at around 2000 or so.

The plan is to finish Swann's Way -- about 600 pages total -- and then read Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow before I head back to the library to get the second volume of Remembrance of Things Past. That gives me another 2 1/2 weeks to make it through both books.

I think I can; I think I can.

  • "The Seeker"?

Hmmm. Be very, very afraid. (And I thought I was frightened before.) Was Over Sea, Under Stone deemed too dull for a crowd of 2007 children?

Clicky to comic source. (I'd also find someone who could do a better job with the text.)
