I've liked some of his music. Other tracks I can take or leave.
Do you realize how hard it is to get an objective review of an album by a well-loved dying man? Anyone who can muster a single flaw bookends it with phrases like, "...but all of this serves only to highlight Zevon's masterful artistry." or some other overwroughtness.
Then again, I probably wouldn't have the balls to pan a dying man's final album.
I get the feeling Warren is getting an enormous kick out of this. If I may put words into his mouth, I can imagine him commenting that, with this kind of critical acclaim, he should have died more often.
Good or bad in his final cuts, I'll always associate him with lawyers, guns, money, and werewolves. And maybe that's as it should be.
